What is Jupiter?

Jupiter is a grocery automation & meal planning service that makes it easy to do your weekly shopping with personalized recommendations and delivery to your door. Our autopilot technology learns from your preferences to help you build your cart and spend less time planning and shopping each week.

How is Jupiter different from services like Instacart or Sunbasket?

Jupiter is not either a grocery delivery company nor a meal kits company. It’s both! With Jupiter you can shop for products, or plan your weekly shopping by meal, using the hundreds of recipes available to you. You can add all the ingredients required for a recipe to your cart in just one click. Plus you have the flexibility of not picking an ingredient if you already have it or substituting it with a brand you like. You save money, while getting meals that fit your preferences better. Jupiter also deliver in reusable bags.

How does Jupiter learn from my preferences?

It all starts with our onboarding questionnaire where we ask you a few questions about your specific needs & lifestyle.  Every week receive a smart shopping plan that you can review and update.Your edits gives us information about what you like and you can also actively help the app learn faster about your preferences and consumption by answering fun quizzes weekly.

What if I like to experiment with new recipes every week, often purchase special treats, regularly try out new items, and often don’t have a predetermined shopping list?

Everyone is unique, and we love that! Jupiter is the most personalized grocery experience in the world, designed to help you however you like to shop. As we learn from your preferences over time, we’ll get better at surfacing new products and recipes we think you’ll love. You can customize any recipe and save new ones you discover from any website.

Where are my groceries coming from?

We work with all your favorite brands, local farmers, bakers, and butchers to bring you the groceries and household items you need every week at fair prices. For every product we carry in our store, we look at what’s in it, where it comes from, and how it’s grown or made to make sure our assortment reflects our values — and yours. We deliver straight from our warehouse in San Francisco.

How do your prices compare?

We work directly with brands and wholesalers, so we are able to offer prices on par with grocery stores. If you find a product cheaper elsewhere, let us know and we’ll match the price.

Are your shoppers gig employees?

No, our shopping and delivery teams are permanent employees who receive above a living wage. We’re proud to take care of our team and offer our customers a reliable experience.

Are the groceries more expensive than buying directly from the store?

Given that we work with brands and wholesalers directly, we are able to offer prices on par with grocery stores. If you find a product cheaper elsewhere, let us know and we’ll match the price.

What if I have special diets or dietary needs?

All our recommendations in your store are personalized to your preferences, which you can edit at any time. We have 600+ shoppable recipes with dietary considerations like Gluten Free, Keto, Vegan, Vegetarian etc. We tag all of our products and recipes so it’s easy to search and filter for what you need.

What if you don’t have an item I’d like to buy?

We do our best to match your existing shopping routine so you don’t have to shop at multiple stores. You can make a product request for anything we're missing — we’re continuously adding new items to our catalog.

Can Jupiter help me with food waste?

Yes! With Jupiter, you get recipe recommendations that make the most of what’s already in your pantry & fridge based on previous purchases. You can also actively help the app learn about your inventory by answering fun quizzes. Our app also helps you decide the right amounts to buy. Every week receive a smart shopping plan that you can review and update.

Membership & Account
Why is there a membership?

We value transparency and prefer to be upfront with our pricing, rather than raising our product prices based on demand or surprising you with hidden surcharges and delivery fees when you check out. The membership fee allows us to hire shoppers and delivery drivers full time and pay them a living wage, instead of relying on gig workers. Your order is reviewed, packed, and delivered by the same people every week, so you can count on a reliable experience that gets better as we get to know your preferences.

Can I try it before I commit?

How do deliveries work?

Every week, we build your cart and send you a notification for you to review it ahead of your delivery. You can review and edit your order until 12pm the day before your reserved weekly delivery slot. You can also skip your delivery or reschedule it to a different day anytime before the cutoff. 

Can I skip or reschedule a delivery?

Yes. With Jupiter, you are always in control. If you don’t want to receive groceries on a particular week, you don’t have to. To avoid charges when skipping a week, you simply need to “pause” your order or cancel your membership after logging into your account. If you want to change the day of your delivery, you can also do so from the deliveries panel of your account.

What if I don’t need a delivery every week, and I don’t want to have to remember to skip every time?

That’s totally fine! We have different membership plans, tailored to different delivery needs. You can downgrade or upgrade your Membership from the Account section of our app.

Do you offer contactless delivery?

The health and safety of our community is our number one priority. We are excited to offer contactless delivery through our Leave at My Door delivery feature.

Leave at My Door delivery gives you the flexibility to have your groceries delivered without having to come to the door or be at home. You can leave delivery instructions for your shopper at checkout, and we’ll notify you when your order arrives.

Leave at My Door is now the default setting for all Jupiter deliveries. If you’d prefer to not use this feature, simply let us know in your delivery instructions. We require shoppers to wear masks whenever they come into contact with customers.

What happens if something is out of stock and I need to give specific instructions?

Jupiter makes it easy to communicate with your personal shopper. You can leave notes on products, or communicate directly with customer service about your needs and preferences. If an item you want is out-of-stock, your shopper will follow your replacement preferences.

Can I tip my shopper?

Tipping is optional but encouraged for delivery orders. It’s a great way to show your shopper appreciation and recognition for excellent service. 100% of your tip goes directly to the people who prepare and deliver your order.

How long does it take for Jupiter to get my carts right?

It varies with every household, but it usually takes about a month (or 4 deliveries) to fully learn from your habits, needs and preferences, and perfect the accuracy of our recommendations. That’s why we encourage you to make the most of your 1 month free trial, and help provide as much feedback as you can while you enjoy free deliveries.

How does Jupiter help with food waste?

We do our best to match your existing shopping routine so you don’t have to shop at multiple stores. You can make a product request for anything you’re missing — we’re continuously adding new items to our catalog.

Do you use low-waste packaging?

Yes, we recently upgraded our packaging to be able to offer a low-waste grocery delivery solution. Today, we’re proud to say that all Jupiter orders are delivered in eco-friendly, reusable canvas bags. You can leave them outside your doorstep for pickup in subsequent deliveries. All bags are completely sanitized in our facilities before reuse. And all damaged bags are recycled responsibly.
